“I’m not just a bass player, I’m a sound system.” From holding down the low end for the legendary rap label Sugar Hill, backing Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, to playing bass in the pioneering Living Colour, Doug Wimbish has lent his innovative and creative bass grooves and sounds to a high-powered roster of world-renowned musicians. Considered a pioneer in hip-hop bass playing and in the use of bass effects, alternate tunings and extended hand techniques, Doug’s mastery of the bass is unparalleled. His highly regarded career has spanned all musical genres, and he's shared the studio and stage with artists like Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Madonna, Seal, Mos Def, Tarja Turunen, Joe Satriani, Carly Simon, James Brown, Al Green, George Clinton, Kanye West and Annie Lennox among others. Besides his work with Living Colour, Doug continues his collaborations in the groups Tack>>Head, Jungle Funk, Little Axe, and The Help. Doug enjoys a successful solo career as well, having released Trippy Notes for Bass in 1999 and CinemaSonics in 2006.

Dougʼs personal venture, WimBash, continues to be both a vision and a mission, rapidly expanding throughout cities in the US and abroad. WimBash, featuring Doug playing with a number of world-class collaborators together with select local bands, uniquely brings together an eclectic group of music genres under one roof, utilizing the local talent alongside well known artists while working together with a local foundation or organization in giving back directly to communities.
