Juan Alderete Info
Juan Alderete de la Peña has been playing bass for more than 30 years and has become one of the most respected players in the industry. He's a mainstay in the Los Angeles music scene, who first made his mark in the groundbreaking metal outfit Racer X along side acclaimed guitarist Paul Gilbert. He went on to form the Scream, then joined the band Pet with soundtrack composer Tyler Bates and vocalist Lisa Papineau before forming Big Sir with Papineau in 1999, at the same time playing on projects with groups like Distortion Felix, Dr. Octagon, and Vato Negro.
Juan is best known for his work in the Mars Volta, which he was invited to join in 2003 by guitarist, composer and producer Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. Juan was initially tapped to play bass on tour for the band’s debut album, De-Loused in the Comatorium, and stayed on as a permanent fixture in the band, playing on all subsequent albums, including The Bedlam in Goliath, which garnered a Best Hard Rock Performance Grammy award for the single “Wax Simulacra.” Since the disbanding of the Mars Volta, Juan has continued to work in the studio and on stage with Mars Volta frontman and co-founder Cedric Bixler Zavala, as well as on his own solo and group projects.
