GET TO KNOW YOUR INDEPENDENT MUSIC STORE: KEN STANTON MUSIC

Get to know your Independent Music Stores – we take a look at what makes certain Independent Music Stores unique and what they can do for you as a player. Whether it be the best deals in town, a collection of rare and vintage gear, or a specialty in a certain area of music – we’ll sort it all out for you.
Ken Stanton Music serves the metro Atlanta area with stores in Marietta, West Cobb, Roswell, Woodstock, and Snellville. They sell a variety of instruments and accessories including guitars, basses, amplifiers, drums, pro audio gear, band and orchestra instruments, print music and more. We sat down with them and asked a few questions…
What sets your store apart from the competition?
60 years in business in the metro Atlanta market. Many of the sales staff have been with us over 10 years, several over 15 and 20 years.
How do you get people to know about you?
Through our reputation and our pricing. We are also supported by yearly marketing campaigns through radio, print, and web. We have an online presence and are also involved with the community.
Who runs your store?
The store is family owned and operated and is run by the owner Kenny Stanton, myself, Scott Cameron, and the store manager John Bond. We also have 5 other locations.
How is your business different today than when it first started?
It started out as a Band & Orchestra company mostly and is now a very large Combo company that still deals a lot with Schools and the B/O end of life.
Where do you think the M.I. retail industry is headed and what do you think will be the direction of independent stores?
It’s hard to say. This is my 38th year in the music retail business. I think one thing has not changed: If you want to WORK at making it happen, get customers in and make the most of that oppurtunity when they do. No disrespect to other companies and or owners/managers but if a business is waiting to see what happens: waiting for customers to walk in, waiting for their inventory to even out, waiting for their staff to improve, waiting to see if it’s safe to grow, waiting for manufacturer reps to do their job, they will probably have a long road ahead of them.

WAY HUGE PACKAGING GETS SOME WAY HUGE RECOGNITION
- Posted in
- Uncategorized, Way Huge
Sometimes as musicians we tend not to care about the way things look, only how they sound. But at Dunlop we take pride in the work that we put into everything we create—from the gear itself to the packaging that it comes in. So we’re proud to announce that Way Huge has recently been featured on The Die Line (the world’s authority when it comes to package design) for its creative design in packaging. So the next time you rip open that new Carbon Copy or Crybaby from its box, take a moment to first reflect on the artistry that was poured into it. If you have any thoughts or want to share your support for Way Huge, you can rate the packaging on The Die Lines site.
For more details and the complete set of packaging pictures you can visit the post here.

“Dunlop’s in-house team set about creating packaging that spoke to the garage workshop heritage of Way Huge, but with an added bright, clean sheen as a nod to the forward-thinking sonic voyagers brave enough to use them. Everything in the Way Huge packaging system was designed to look as though a garage-based entrepreneur made it in 1976. What appears to be a “one-size-fits-all” kraft box with poorly hand-silkscreened graphics is really a custom box with distressed artwork printed 4up on a flexo press. The 4 artworks, while all containing the same pattern, are rotated differently to give a random appearance when all the boxes are viewed together. The label is designed to resemble a repurposed bumper sticker with fluorescent colors and crappy 70’s counterculture typefaces. Also included in the box: a printed “weathered” card that holds two souvenir buttons.”

Here’s some more info on the Slash Wah:
Like the man himself, the new Slash Wah from Dunlop is both revolutionary and classic, right down to its hot rod metallic red finish and cutting edge circuit design. Now you can have all the features and screaming tone of Slash’s very own custom wah pedal—a tool as essential to the hard rock icon’s style as his Les Paul and Marshall amp. The Slash Wah deploys a searing high gain distortion coupled with the Fasel-loaded Classic circuit for instant lead tone that not only cuts through, but sings with a sweet and lush top end. Convenient LEDs indicate distortion on/off and wah on/off modes, so there’s no more guessing game every time you put your foot down. And with the batteries readily accessible from the top of the rocker pedal, you don’t have to fumble with a screwdriver when its time to re-power. So get your boot on a Dunlop Slash Wah. Top hat not included. Winner of Guitar World Magazine’s Gold Award.
Catch Slash live this Saturday at the Roxy in LA.
