Academy Award winning singer, songwriter, activist and educator Buffy Sainte-Marie stopped by Dunlop HQ the other day. She brought along her band for a tour of the facilities. Our fearless leader Jim Dunlop led them through all the areas of production where we make strings, picks, and electronics.

Buffy has written songs covered by some of the greatest arists, including Elvis Presley, Barbara Streisand, Neil Diamond, and Donovan just to name a few. She is also known for her activism championing indigenous peoples of the Americas and women’s rights. Her out spoken anti Vietnam war stance led her, as she claims, to be radio blacklisted at the encouragement of President Lyndon Johnson.

She later went on to appear regularly on the PBS children’s TV show Sesame Street, and in 1983 she won an Oscar for co-writing the song “Up Where We Belong” from the movie An Officer and a Gentleman.
