The 2017 NAMM Show kicked off today, and that means it’s time to unveil some rad new gear. If you’re at the show this year, make sure to come and check out all the great new stuff in person at our booth—#4568, Hall C. If you can’t make it, then here’s a preview of what Dunlop has in store for 2017.
The John Petrucci Primetone® Jazz III Pick is a whole new take on one of our most popular pick designs: the Jazz III. As the man himself describes it, “this pick’s custom bevel is based on the edge of one of my own well-worn picks. It’ll glide off your strings like glass with a loud, bold sound thanks to its super durable Ultex® material. The Jazz III tip provides precision and clarity, while the custom grip ensures ultimate control.” John’s new pick comes in two colors: tried-and-true Black and the new and appropriately badass Oxblood.
The 2016 Winter NAMM Show kicks off today at the Anaheim Convention Center in Southern California, and we’re showing off a ton of great new gear. Here’s a sample of what’s coming in 2016.
If your music demands crystal clear notes and fluid, dextrous picking, get yourself a pack of Primetone™ Sculpted Plectra. Made with Ultex® for superior tonal definition and durability, each pick is burnished by hand so that its sculpted edges glide smoothly off your strings like a broken-in pick.
Now, for the first time in years, the classic Herco nylon pick is available to guitar players once again in the form of the Vintage ’66 Series. To resurrect this iconic tool faithfully, we had to get right to the heart of what made the originals so great. How did we do it? Dunlop pick guru Jimmy Dunlop gives us the details.
In 2015, we’re celebrating our 50th Anniversary. That’s 50 years producing high quality, reliable tools that help players express their musical vision as clearly as they possibly can. This year is no different.

Dunlop has provided musicians with so many amazing tools for so long that it’s hard to remember a time when that wasn’t the case. It’s also easy to forget that this company doesn’t just have a man’s name—it was actually named after a man. And 50 years ago, that man was perceptive enough to see a need in the marketplace, smart enough to be able to design and build a product to fill that need, and fearless enough to think that he could sell that product to millions of musicians. It was indeed that fearless and adventurous spirit that brought Jim Dunlop to the US from Canada in the 1960s. As part of our 50th anniversary celebration, Jim and his son Jimmy sat down with us to talk about our company’s beginnings and most important milestones.

Dunlop is the number one pick manufacturer in the world. We didn’t reach that spot by treating picks as an afterthought—they’re as important to your sound as your pickups or your amp. We’re always experimenting with new formulas and shapes so we make sure every player’s need is well-accounted for. We sat down with CEO Jimmy Dunlop, our pick guru, for some insight into our pick-making and pick design process.
