Dunlop Strings, Cry Baby and MXR artists Trivium will release their new album, In Waves, on August 9 on Roadrunner Records. This marks the second time Trivium has used Dunlop Strings to record an album. Lead vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy and lead/rhythm guitarist Corey Beaulieau use .10-.52 electric sets for their six string guitars, adding a single .60 for their seven string guitar work. Bass guitarist Paulo Gregoletto has been a faithful user of the stainless steel five string bass sets.
“In Waves to us, is Trivium. In Waves is the music, the artwork, the videos and the live show; they are all part of an interconnected whole. There’s no question, in our eyes, that this is the most complete project we’ve ever done. We think we’ve finally made the record that we’ve always strived to make,” says Matt.
“I used the Kirk Hammett wah on all my wah parts. Also the power of Dunlop strings are amazing. Never broke a string live, and the amount of countless hours of abuse they can take in the studio and live without losing tone speaks volumes of the quality of the product. You want superior tone choose Dunlop!” says Corey.
The album features a guitar-driven edge that fans have come to love and expect from the band. Matt and Corey pushed some of the tracks even further in their heaviness and aggression while using Dunlop Strings. Matt goes on to say that “Trivium has always had the ability to jump back and forth and try all sorts of gear; a large part of “guitar gear” (and an obviously essential part) is strings. I know everyone has their preference, but I’ve been around the block with strings – nothing plays like Dunlop for me. Listen to In Waves; every component of the sound was essential to what piece of gear it related to. My Jazz III max-grips and .10-.52 string set made that sound take the next step. Essential.”
The band will spend the summer on their second go-round at the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, leaving the tour for a few days to play two very special European album-release shows: Friday, August 5 on the main stage at the legendary Wacken Open Air festival and Saturday, August 6 as special guest to Iron Maiden at the O2 Arena in London.
