Longtime Dunlop Band Avenged Sevenfold is riding high on the success of âNightmareâ, the bands fifth studio album.
The album draws on everything from the earliest influences and inspirations that bonded the musicians in their youth to the vast spectrum of tastes these friends have developed over the years, reaching far outside the rock and punk universes one might expect.
âWe wouldnât be Avenged Sevenfold if we didnât experiment with every kind of music in our brains,â says Gates. âComing from a background where we listened to so much music and having musicians who understand and can get inside the heads of people playing on those records and producing, this band has a talent for that. When we do go into other genres, it comes off naturally. We lived it and breathed it. Songs like âFictionâ â thatâs a complete departure. To me thatâs Jimmy and little bit of me from when we were kids, thatâs how I knew him. Songs like âTonight The World Dies,â slower, but not a ballad. We grew up listening to Stone Temple Pilots and Alice In Chains, stuff like that. Then you have âSave Me,â the quintessential Avenged Sevenfold song. Undoubtedly to me a future fan favorite.â
In August, AVENGED SEVENFOLD will co-headline the first annual Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival with DISTURBED. Also on the bill are STONE SOUR, HALESTORM, and HELLYEAH. The Uproar tour, which will hit amphitheatres and arenas, marks the bandâs first tour since the passing of beloved friend and drummer Jimmy âThe Revâ Sullivan. Mike Portnoy from DREAM THEATER plays drums on âNightmareâ and will also tour with the band for Uproar.
