Dunlop is proud to be involved with Seattle’s Experience Music Project, most recently contributing to the EMP’s 2011 Founders Award Celebration honoring blues guitar great Buddy Guy.
Company founder Jim Dunlop was in attendance at the Founds Awards Celebration Dinner on Wednesday December 7th in the EMP Museum’s Sky Church central hall, as a Swarovski crystal-studded Buddy Guy Signature Cry Baby — black with white polkadots — was put up for raffle in support of the EMP’s charitable efforts. The rare and eye-catching pedal, which was raffled off with a Fender Buddy Guy Stratocaster, was purchased by Janie Hendrix, sister of legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix and staunch supporter of the EMP and its charitable endeavors.

“Janie’s phenomenal support of the Museum regularly manifests itself in the gracious lending of artifacts for use in Hendrix exhibitions, but this most recent gift was a phenomenal effort on her part and we were quite blown away,” says Kristen Lound, the EMP’s Manager of Donor Relations & Sponsorship.”
Proceeds from the Founders Award celebration will benefit a host of youth education programs, including Sound Off!, the Northwest’s premier battle of the bands (which Dunlop is also a sponsor of); the Youth Advisory Board (YAB); Teen Artist Workshops (taw), which focus extensively on team-building skills, communication, collaboration, and songwriting; After Hours, an all-ages event designed by teens for teens; Curriculum Connections, teacher resources that link national and Washington State learning objectives with museum content; the Science Fiction and Fantasy Festival, featuring student writers and fledgling musicians; school field trips; educator resource seminars; and in-depth museum tours. Through these efforts, EMP reaches more than 40,000 local school children annually, fostering camaraderie through creativity to inspire lifelong learning.
