BF-JH-PicFrom ass-kicking Metallica epics like “Master of Puppets” to new monsters like “Cyanide”, riff master James Hetfield’s venomous style has inspired many. Preferring picks with a bright tone and biting attack, Hetfield looked to Dunlop for the perfect tool for his fierce downward picking style. Based on a vintage tortoise-shell pick, the Black Fang is made of tough, sturdy Ultex material with a defined tone and sharp attack. Its pointed and contoured tip gives you ultimate speed and control—perfect for players looking to unleash their tone clearer, faster, and with unrivaled precision. “It’s fast, bright, and strong because of its hard point and material,” says the man himself. “It gives you everything you need—just add venom.”

The guys at Heavy Core Gear did an in-depth preview of them on their site, and they had this to say:

“The sharpened tip of the Black Fangs is a crucial part of what makes these little bastards so badass. Whether you play bass or guitar, the beveled edge and tip get rid of string drag almost completely, allowing for ultimate control and fierce speed.”

Well, they look nice, but what counts is how they play.
Once you try the picks from V-picks, you won’t go back to these standard style picks, including the Stubby Dunlops.

Make your Big Stubbys in Ultex and the Gator Grip material. Big Stubbys are the best shape going but the standard hard plastic chips too easy on the 1.0mm red and have zero flex in the 2mm and 3mm size. “Signature” gear is a turn off btw.

Hi teebes!!! Now I know your picks haha. Funny how much the picktrum [ha] affects the sound.

  • Danger

I’ve been using Ultex picks for a while now… they’re like “power steering”. They are the best sounding and playing picks there are (including $20 a piece picks)… AND they are the UGLIEST picks made!! Thank the Pick GODS for BLACK ULTEX!! I hope to see some non-gasoline color Ultex in the “regular” line of picks soon. Purple?!

Awesome picks! Been waiting for the black version for a long time. Too bad they have Hetfield written all over them. As soon as I got them I dunked them in nail polish remover and got rid of the logo art!
