This week’s Friday Giveaway is a real treat for blues fans and Cry Baby fans alike—a Buddy Guy Signature Cry Baby wah pedal, with a bottom plate signed by Buddy himself!

Buddy’s status as a legendary guitarist and a Cry Baby player was recognized earlier this month by the Experience Music Project in Seattle, where a custom Buddy Guy Signature Cry Baby, studded with Swarovski crystals, was raffled off for the EMP charitable endeavors. Click here to see the pedal and read about the event.

Cited as a major influence by wah-wah masters such as Hendrix, Clapton, and Vaughn, Buddy Guy helped establish the wah-wah as part of the blues vocabulary. To honor his contributions we have created the Cry Baby Buddy Guy Signature Wah, featuring the Fasel Inductor for a sweet and singing top end, and two distinct user selectable wah voices—choose “DEEP” for a big and throaty growl, or “BG” for Buddy’s own warm and bell-like wah tone. Convenient side-mounted LEDs indicate which mode you are in, while a separate LED indicates effect on/off. Let your guitar sing the blues in style with the Buddy-approved polka dot graphics and custom signature tread.

To enter to win this great Cry Baby, use the comments section below to tell us about your favorite Buddy Guy wah-wah moment—which song it’s in and why you love it.

  • http://twitter.com/AndrePlaysBass Andre Gomez

Honestly, I’ve never heard or listened to buddy guy. I’m just a broke desperate musician in need of gear and that would really help me out during these times.

  • Duffman690

My favorite moment was when BG was when He played Hoochie Coochie Man Live at Vernon. Everytime I listen to this one, it always sends chills down my spine!

    Woop Woop! 1st entry!

  • Gregchilcott

I remember him playing a guitar canter special, that entire set was breath taking. I’m a young guy but I love things from before my time. Buddy is one of my favorite artists of all time. As far as Wah-wah, it seems that EVERY time Buddy uses a wah it is just another point where he cries or laughs into the guitar and it comes straight out the speakers. Great artist, funny guy!

  • Andresasalomon

Buddy Guy’s cover of Voodoo Child is the Best!

  • Ryan Boisjolie

Voodoo Chile! Because Buddy does the best Hendrix impression ever

  • Dfleener

when buddy makes that thing sing.

  • Clay Jenkin

Had a chance to meet Buddy at Fraze Pavilion outside of Dayton, Ohio a few years back. Eric Johnson opened for Buddy. Hell of a show!

Anyway, I was backstage helping my wife with IT stuff Buddy and his tech come walking by with his Strat and a bottle of Crown Royal on a roadcase. T Said hi, shook his hand talked for a second and he left. Extremely cool person!

When he went on stage told my wife, got to go! Not gonna’ miss Buddy!

About 3/4′s of the way through the show Buddy does this timeline tribute to the history of the song Vodoo Chile. He started with the earliest know rendition, brought it up through the years to Hendrix. He kicked in his wah, and I, and everyone else, were schooled and awed at the same time

    Nothing like it!!!!!!!

It was honor to meet Buddy and talk to him and then get to see him play from the 4th row

    Great memory!

  • Blindsk8r379

Any time, really. The contour of the wah from flush to slammed is ridiculous. It kind of just always sounds good, nomatter what.

  • marc

my favorite bgwwm is in no song . its been the moment , i’ve seen, that i could win a wahwah  , cause i have none :(

  • Bassistrudy

  • http://twitter.com/MrRockALot Thomas Carley

my favorite Buddy Guy wah moment was when I saw him live in Hershey, PA November 18th because every time he soloed, his facial expressions matched his solos. It’s hard to explain, but you could see the emotion in his playing. The concert was very inspirational for a young and aspiring bluesman like myself.

  • Coryss1

    Voodoo chile, cuz its cool

  • Mik93

Favorite Buddy Guy wah-wah moment is whenever He uses it.

  • Mhead28

    Buddy Guy! Hell yea!

  • Brandon Hughes

Buddy Guy – Voodoo Child (Slight Return), is by far my my most favorite of the songs hes done the solos in there just speak to me and gives me that extra push to better my blues playing as a guitar player, and better my Heavy Rock solos by adding more blues elements into them , i would love to own this Buddy Guy Cry Baby! Buddy Guy is by far one of the best blues player ive heard if not the best.

  • Subzero_jax

I just love hearing the wah go on in the song let me love you baby with BG B.B King and Eric Clapton!!

  • 23

i just want the wah wah.

  • Jeremy Houser

I can not remember for the life of me, but I was watching a concert that Buddy Guy was in with a few other prominent guitarists. I wasn’t really watching it for him, but he played this sweet little solo where he seemed to know all of the perfect moments the use that little doll! It was a beautiful solo, and when I am in a blues guitar mood, Buddy Guy is always in my playlist.

  • Wve359

Any moment is my favorite Buddy Guy moment!!!!!

  • Pleaguitar

i just love the way he plays with such feel, im not big on that style of music but the few times i have seen him play blew me away, this man can make a guitar “speak” liek no other, his wah sound is killer!

  • Bob Steingraber

“Voodoo Child” on the Experience Hendrix tour. Buddy peeled the paint off the walls on that one. Transcendent!

  • GuitarGirl

Seeing him in concert a couple years ago. He killed every song and had the crowd on their feet for his entire set. He is hands down my favorite blues artist.

  • http://twitter.com/Goldtop2011 Tyler Cochran

It’s gotta be his cover of Voodoo Child!

  • Anonymous

When Buddy Guy played  Damn right I’ve got the blues with John Mayer, I remember seeing that live and it was one of the greatest moments of my life, because Buddy Guy is a huge idol of mine and I had not expected to be seeing him walk out of on stage with John Mayer and he just shook that whole venue up. It had everyone moving and grooving

  • Kevin R

    Definitely Voodoo Child!

  • Tellison

My favorite Buddy Guy Wah pedal moment is when he uses it make his guitar flatout sing the blues while jamming Feels Like Rain with John Mayer.

I LOVE BUDDY GUY!!! I saw him live like a year or so ago, and it was phenomenal!! He had his Wah pedal front and center, in the middle of the stage.  Watching him play can’t even be fit to words.

  • helicon

    “she’s a superstar”

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=615723567 Paul Escalante

Saw him at the Woodlands blues festival in 93. During Voodoo Chile, Buddy hit a gloriously unhinged, wah soaked note which he then proceeded to effortlessly hold for about a full minute, all the while flashing his infectious, youthful smile at the awed audience. That day i learned that if you know what you’re doing, you can say more with one note than with 10,000. A valuable lesson, that extends far beyond guitar playing.

  • MXRfiend

….Dunlop……….Who am I supposed to pick my favorite? That’s like asking your child which day off of of school they like best.

  • http://twitter.com/guitarist975 Tom Lunsford

Mans a legend.. would really appreciate and use this pedal every day

  • James Ray Green Jr

I don’t have a special story to tell I just remember always seeing Buddy play and there was always that crybaby on stage out there up front   , he doesn’t always use it, boy , but when he does  LOOK OUT !!!!!  POLKA DOTS MAKE EVERYTHING BETTER !!!

  • Chodamunk

I just framed a picture of him and 3 of his guitar picks.. one of the picks says “Go F•*k Yourself”.. this would be the best Christmas present EVER!!!

  • Eric the guitar guy

every time he turns his wah on, id like to see anybody use there wah better than this legend

  • Xinpire2

Haven’t had a chance to see him live. Just on video. Voodoo chile

  • Medievalmetals

voodoo child!! sent chills down my spine for a week, and then some!!

  • Iron Mtn.

I love when Buddy does his version of Hendrix’s Voodoo Chile (slight return) the wah work is as potent as Hendrix as if he’s channeling his ghost. Amazing!!!!

  • Wllmsn_jack

“I put a spell on you”, from the Bring ‘em in album. Buddy is literally casting a spell throughout the song! It’s entrancing, and will drown you with tone.

  • http://twitter.com/AgeTyree A.J. Tyree

    I Love “CryBaby”.

  • Muppet

I was in Buddy Guy’s club here in Chicago. I was there to see Eric Sardinas (if you don’t know who he is, get your ass to one of his shows!). I was going into the men’s room, and Buddy was coming out. I was startled, and too nervous to say anything to him. I feel dumb now. I wish I would have shaken his hand. (Hopefully he washed it after peeing.)

  • mokx

    Definitely Voodoo Child! Just amazing!

  • KELLY WEIMAN

YOU DAMN RIGHT, IVE GOT THE BLUES. THESE ARE THE SCREAMING SMOOTH SILKY TONES THAT INSPIRED ME TO PLAY GUITAR.

  • Jessedavidadams

I saw him play VooDoo Chile live in Seattle!  It was my most memorable Buddy Guy experience ever!  He uses the Cry Baby like nobody else on earth!  He makes it swing low through the valleys and high into orbit, then hangs there forever with endless sustain!  He’ll kick it forward as a treble booster, then rock it back to low growls all with the precision of a true guitar wizard.  He’s like the Yoda of the blues.  BG is the best!

  • rpm

Now You’re Gone on Bring Em In.

  • Terry2200

Country Man from Feels Like Rain, It drives the whole song

My favorite Buddy Guy moment isn’t a specific song, but it was when he was performing at an outdoor concert at the University of North Florida. During the break, he invited me and a friend to sit in his van and talk. He was very friendly, and I’ll always be greatful for the time he spent with us . . .

  • Magicalchandler

I remember watching a show that Buddy played in Texas. It was the first time that i had ever seen him and I was blown away by how much emotion he threw into his guitar solos. When Buddy uses a wah pedal, it seems that  he is making the guitar come alive and sing. I don’t have one song in particular that is my favorite wah moment, I guess I love them all!

  • Jessejames1515

Buddy does an awesome job with the wah on Voodoo Chile

  • Davidp

Mustang Sally.  I am sure if you up the definition of finesse, there would be a picture of Buddy Guy. Absolutely great tone.

  • http://twitter.com/MobyTheMinnow67 Brett Husebye

Buddy Guy- Voodoo Chile lets play guitar over our head…….

  • 123jim

buddy has truely set the mark ,, tennessee jed , voodoo chile , a ton of blues numbers  . this wah has a lot to give to every pick stroke .. like muddy waters , and many  blues masters  weither from detroit , or the delta .. it has a soulfull expresion . it’d be not only cool but grand to add this to my small assortment of tools i use to find that sound to fill my nature .

  • http://twitter.com/Guitarstuff4U Brian

the riffs and wah moments in Mustang Sally are the some of the greatest in blues history! wish I oculd meet buddy and shake his hand and thank him for leading the way with so much of his music!

  • Tate Peterson

Mine wasn’t a wah wah moment. I met him backstage at a show and now I  have bought a Strat that he signed that day and he was such an awesome man! I wasn’t expecting how wonderful he was and how interested he was in me. I still have the backstage pass from that day and the beautiful guitar he signed,… now I just need the wah wah. To be honest he really inspired me to learn guitar that  day and that was the  best gift.

  • Victor

Damn Right I’ve Got The Blues album had some great wah moments on it.

  • Rockgitarist

dude. mustang sally.  Its so tasty and uplifting.  All the fills in that song complement buddys voice and i love it because it never fails to get me in a good mood.

  • Aaron D

Buddy is the man!    but, my favorite Buddy song does’nt even have a wah used.. but, if I gotta pick one with. I’d go with vvith Voodoo Chile …just because i’m a huge Hendrix fan too..

  • Sanik Almaty

    Mustang Sally

  • Magathans

Was leaning against the stage mains in Wichita Ks, watching Buddy play Voodoo Chile…this pedal would look nice next to my Octavio!!

  • Cheech Romero

Any song he play is my favorite moment!

  • slingggr

live, 2 yrs ago on St. Valentines day, Buddy was strolling through the audience playing and flirting, when he spied the lady I was with and came over to mess with her, he got down on his knees and was playing with his tongue, in a not so tongue n cheek rendition of rock me baby, of course he wasnt using a wah, but he had the girls creamin that night!!!

  • Machado

“Me & My Guitar” from Breaking Out is my favorite! Bordering on rock and roll chaos, it walks a hard line of soul, funk and blues. Listening to it now. Thanks for the reminder what a great song this is!

  • Ipozestu

Buddy Is a tone hound! Soft and smooth to Rough and Gritty. He talks though his Wah.

  • John

    This one: http://youtu.be/lKzMJrQ3uqk (1:35-1:55). BECAUSE IT’S NASTY.

  • Mando Padilla

The song “Do Your Thing” because  he utilizes the wah effectively during call-and-response segments. Its very humanesque. He does his thing…maybe that’s what he meant. The song also ends with soulful, growling, tasty wah traling off nicely. Even at low volumes, you can hear that wah growl, talk and cry.

  • Robert

Love the “Voodoo Chile”, but also like the use as a tone-pot in “Ain’t No Sunshine”…

  • Russ

You know, I have two Buddy Guy albums, and I don’t think Wah is on either.   But I AM a big Buddy Guy and Dunlop fan and would LOVE his cry-baby with an autograph!!!

  • http://twitter.com/ArrowsmithC Charlie Arrowsmith

Mustang Sally just makes me wanna fall in love with blues all over again

  • The High Cell

It was at a Dave Matthews Band concert in Chicago, in the first year or two of this century. The opening act cancelled (i believe due to illness), and Buddy was in town. He “opened” for the DMB. Without any offense to who was supposed to be the opening act that night, the musical value that I got from that show was double the price of admission.
Buddy did his thing, as he seems to do, and then he came up on stage for a veritable melding of the styles during the DMB set. I already appreciated Buddy at the time, but aside from adding his own magic to the music I was hearing, he also shared an entire history lesson of the blues with many other people that would not have otherwise been exposed to it.
I have no doubt that what Buddy did that night exposed thousands of people to not only himself, but to his influences, and also those who were influenced by him. I soon became one of the latter in my guitar playing, and hopefully share it with even more people.

    Thanks, Buddy.

    Mike from The High Cell

  • Alex Baum

I have to say my favorite wah-wah moment is in the song in Now You’re Gone it really adds to the deep feel of the song and helps to put a great twist on that deep traditional blues. The wah-wah defiantly makes that song what it is. Love the blues but especially Buddy for his unique style and adaptations its what has inspired me to venture out and try new things with my music.

  • http://twitter.com/wytfel Mark E Walker

(You Give Me) Fever  off “This is Buddy Guy!”. The solo right after the two minute mark is that perfect subtle use of the wah, expressive but not obvious

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sandy-Aphid/100001448893164 Sandy Aphid

In Chicago in the 70′s he was pretty much everywhere, but for wah… I love it when it does a Hendrix song.

  • Anonymous

Buddy’s done some AWESOME live performances of Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) where he was KILLING the wah wah!

  • JSimpson

I dont know if he used a wah on the song or not, but the first Buddy Guy song(s) I heard were from Stone Crazy. I was hooked. Beginning to end its still one of my all time favorite blues albums. I still havent managed to see him live, and I regret that. But I will. The man is amazing.

  • Jenniferc

Gotta go with Mustang Sally he kills it!

  • Mark Thompson

I’ve never seen Buddy, but I have seen Muddy. If I’m not mistaken, it was Jimi Hendrix that introduced the wah~wah effect to Buddy Guy. He sure know’s how to connect the dots from his pedal to his guitar.

  • David Sutherland

I honestly couldn’t decide but I will agree with John from a few posts earlier that this http://youtu.be/lKzMJrQ3uqk is pretty damn NASTY!!! :P

  • Chris Genral96

Mustang Sally of course! It envelopes every note pleasant to the ears.

  • Lespauldude27

I really haven’t ever listened to him but I’m sure going to go look up some of his stuff now. But I would really like to have a new Wah pedal.

Hoochie Coochie Man solo by Buddie Guy, ultimate live with the wah-wah, brings the soul out from his fingers, feet and out to the speakers and into the ears of the audience listening pleasure, wo yeah!

  • http://twitter.com/lhpdewit Laurens de Wit

    My favorite Buddy Guy
wah-wah moment? That has got to be ‘She’s A Superstar’ from the
‘Feels Like Rain’ (1993) album. From the beginning to the end, from
the first to the last note, this song is full of wah-wah goodness.
Makes me wanna pick up my guitar and play the shit out of it.

  • Matthijs Budding

Did you ever see Buddy Guy playing “Voodoo Child” by Jimi Hendrix? Buddy was a great inspiration for Jimi, and so it must be great for him to hear Buddy play his song. He passed away, but he was listening from heaven. Buddy did the song fantastic, ofcourse with a WahWah. But my personal favorite?: I PUT A SPELL ON YOU!!! He played is with Santana, they both use a wahwah. And it’s magical. The power of this mighty minor-blues. Just incredible. It’s my favorite Buddy Guy wah moment for sure.

  • Christopher Kirton

    Buddy Guy And Jonny Lang
MIDNIGHT TRAIN is a Screaming Blues Song

  • Krismael

i’d like to listeng to one…never did before..im will search youtube for some Buddy Guy Wah Wah moments…no doubt they will be great

  • Nico Qz

I saw Buddy Guy live together with Jeff Beck in Berlin and the way Buddy used his Wah was amazing! So to me its not a special SOng, but any songs where he uses his wah!

    All the best

  • Topp Dogg

Damn Right I’ve Got the Blues was my first Buddy Guy Album and I have been hooked ever since, my obvious favorite is Mustang Sally but take your pick from the whole album and you wont go wrong.

  • Thelongplayer

I’m not familiar with Buddy Guy’s heavy use of a wah pedal, but Guy did fuse the styles of Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, James Brown and Elmore James.  I first heard about Guy on “Alone and Acoustic” and “Damn Right, I Got the Blues.”  Later, I found work he did with many rock and blues musicians in “Supershow” and live dates with Stevie Ray Vaughn and Eric Clapton.

  • Joe

Damn fine wah.And Buddy Guy’s rightfully legendary

  • http://twitter.com/dimeslime Don Hajek

I dig almost all of Buddy Guy’s catalog. Most blues leaves me cold but that dudew gives me chills!!!
