    loud and proud

  • BrentS

    I play from a whisper to a roar…

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=745039779 John Leote

If I’m standing right in front of my stack…….and the speakers aren’t making my shirt flutter…….I bump it up a bit.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1328079151 Danny Birdwell

    m/ ROCK! m/

  • http://twitter.com/MoenBE Moen

Not being able to properly control my volume makes me play quiet at home and loud with friends when we’re jamming.

  • http://www.facebook.com/OogieBoogieDry Tyler Matthews

I like to play louder when i use clean channel over the gain channel. Gives it a more crisper sound and when i drop the volume down on the gain….livens it up

  • http://www.facebook.com/thasting Tyler Hasting

I play so loud that the sea shatters beneath my loudness. Actually no, I play at a pretty moderate level.

  • R_propes

I looove dynamics. Mid volume for rhythm, full for screamin’ leads! Pick me! :)

  • MGZ

i play loud and and like to switch  quietly and soft tone when i play specially with solos so i need a volume pedal to do that!thank you

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000034164173 Iaian Allen

i play loud  i love the screm it gives

  • Guitargodkpy

I play my intros soft, and my verses/choruses LOUD so they don’t know what hit ‘em.

  • Robb

Dynamics are everything in music. without it, the music is boring. So….you need all of the range.

  • Rickwicz

I have the older original model and love it. I don’t think I need it much, but when I don’t have it I miss it. I started using it with my lap steel for volume swells, and now use it for guitar in place of a overdrive or booster pedal because it doesn’t color the sound. I love using it for bass because I can control the mood of the song with subtle immediate changes in volume.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/John-Struemph/100001785866622 John Struemph

Now that is something I really need. Few of us can actually do what Eddie V and Joe B. and others do with the volume knob of the guitar. I myself have arthritis and can’t do it. A volume pedal solves this and allows an intricate weave of tones. Definitely on my list of items to get!

  • Austind

i enjoy playing in the middle when i am playing shows it doesnt seem to me that i get loud enough and mabey this could give me that extra hmph i think i deserve

  • ChristianMSwanson

i wont win but regardless i would love to have one and use this instead of burning out my volume pot in my guitar :/

  • Whiteharts

My playing volume is SWELL. ;-)

  • Robmanob

I play everything from metal to blues, volume control is essential for the correct tone. Sometimes you need to go from barely hear to WIDE OPEN!

  • Tylerbguitar

I play at 11 most the time playing metal, but I use the volume pot on my strat all the time to get different effects! A pedal would make it much easier to control the output for different effects

  • Semajneo

When I play loudly, the walls vibrate with verocious anger and girth. The plaster in the walls shun my name, whilst falling to the ground in shamful defeat.
When I play quietly, the eardums of my listeners feel as though they are lonely married moms that have just listened to the sultry voice of stupid Edward Cullen.

  • Boscoef

Dynamics is king. I play as loud as the song needs or as quietly as it calls for. With this sweet pedal I could have all the control at my tip toes while having both hands free to play.

  • Brandonchitwood15

i play so loud im surprised my windows havent blown out. i could really use a new volume pedal with the new setup i got

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000776174515 Cody Iamerror James

I like to use my volume control to get a little more for solos, a little less for tamer or cleaner stuff, and to vary the amount of gain from my amp.  I also would like a volume pedal to do EVH and Vinnie Vincent cello like swells.

  • Jameshm44

Controlling volume is always a pain. Often volume pedals lose the tone as the volume is decreased. Will be nice to check this one out.

  • Zacharyharpst

I like to play using my thumb & forefinger quietly with some harmonics… that way each note carries more soul & tone & weight… utilizing a deafening silence in a round about way

  • Tigercountry

I play loud enough for the neighbors, at least that’s what they say.

  • William Hart

I play real loud but love to play soft and in between. I use a lot of  swells  with my Delay. I also Have an old one channel Marshall that i like to double volume pedals one for volume the other to control solo volume.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=545225086 Ricardo Baerga-Ibanez

Playing lap steel I certainly need both ends of the spectrum and a nice gradual taper.

  • JAChavez82

I play loudly & quietly and in between. Which is why I want this pedal. I like to roll the volume down on my guitar while it’s distorted to try to get it down to a clean sound and then spin the volume control up all the way up when I want to come back heavy & strong. I’ve wanted to get a volume pedal to do this without having to dedicate my hands to the volume control and dedicate more of my focus to playing. Whether I get this or not, that pedal rocks!!!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EXY34U54IVGFXJLRRSLZXXN3RU Myke

I play pretty dang loud. But I like fading into a note by turning the volume up after a strum–something that’s pretty easy to do on a Strat, but a bit harder on a Tele or a Les Paul. That’s probably mostly what I’d use a volume pedal for.

And being that it’s at my feet, I’d probably abuse the hell out of it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/john.dawkins1 John Dawkins

I’m use a Marshall head the crunch channel on it suits for what I like to play. The clean I play just a touch louder than the crunch. I use a little chorus with my clean to add a little depth and a little reverb as well.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001938949319 Stephen Martin

I play Thrash/ Death metal. So I LOVE it loud!! I want a solid volume so I need something solid to do some volume swells that I like to do. So who better than Dunlop?

  • Djcdude95

When playing in my house, I have to play quietly, but when i’m playing with my dad (a drummer), or i’m alone… I’m as loud as my windows can go!!! I tired building my own volume pedal, its not very effective… So this would be great! Good Luck Everyone!!!

  • Frank

    11. The only way to go!

  • Gimmyjuerrero

I mostly like to play classic rock songs at a average volume.

  • ddeaton

I usually play rhythm guitar at low to medium volume during church services. Have to change volume depending on type of song.

  • Mkippy

I like the blues.  I need less volume for the rhythm and I need to crank it up for solos.  But I like my sound.  I don’t want distortion when I crank it up for a whopping’ lead.

  • Teneachtwicenightly

I play guitar for Ten Each Twice Nightly in Wichita, KS. We play very loud in different venues all over town! One of our songs, “summer roads” is played with volume swells. I currently use a Morley Optical Volume but the range and control is very limited. I need something with a little more precision. Thank you for listening.
    -Jouji Miichi

  • http://www.facebook.com/BadAss4lifeBLS Wayne Schimpf

man i’d love that pedal….some time’s i like to just let lose and play as loud as i can get it while other time’s i like tone’n it down…depend’s on the mood…pedal give’s ya more versatility that’s for sure

  • http://profiles.google.com/sam.geese Sam Geese

They call me “The Velvet Hammer”.
I play so LOUD you can barely hear me.
But mostly they call me Sam.

  • Alleycatstudios

Volume pedals are wonderful for girl guitarists like me with small hands that can’t stretch far enough to work your guitar’s volume knob! And playing in an all girl blues band, I have to be able to go from in-your-face loud to sultrily quiet very quickly. I’m definitely going to have to look into getting one of these!

  • J23993

I play so loud that all 8 the roll up doors in my building rattle in an out of control distorted harmonic frequency     the the Sheriff usually shows up to check the alarms going off no to mention my band mates are now sterile and flys explode in mid air ††††

  • Alex Kresse

Synyster Gates fan … i deserve it even though Syn uses Schecter

  • Jaysanderman

Someday when we travel the length of universe my sound waves will still be further & faster from the volume I’m putting out

  • jerrald wright

i’m just try to play and i’m playing rock smith to do so
but like me i never win a thing

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Don-Knospe/100001420115494 Don Knospe

Every thing is on 11……yeah that’s right, I skip 9…..

  • Bowman894

I need a new volume pedal so bad,but nothing is very reasonable or has too many other gimmicks !
This is exactly what I want & need—
           FEEL  ME  ?

  • Bryan

So when I play and the wife says “turn it down please!” I can obey. Otherwise, no i cant turn it down! this is the way I talk!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/bob2884 Robert Perry

I play with a lot of dynamics.  I’d use a volume pedal with delay for some cool swells and get kind of a violin like sustain, but mixed with a phase 90 sounds awesome!

  • Lon Hoofnagle

I would love to win this pedal. It would make a great addition to my pedal board.

  • Paul

As quietly as necessary, and often pretty damn loud. But with this? This pedal? This metal and rubber footrest? I would reach new heights (and lowths) of loudishness and quietude!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/MHAENLBEKZ3QXEWK7D6BMRA6KM Michael

I quite like to slap on some crazy distortion crank the gain, and roll off my highs as I play mournful chello-ish passages as I fade in the volume.

  • Sugapablo

Both.  It’s called dynamics.  From the quietest of low whispers to the thundering roar of the gods!   As it should be.  ;)

  • Lon Hoofnagle

11 is not a number it is a way of life

  • ripp

    swell.

  • Mjberg1

I  play so loud that the neighborhood children run in fear!!!!

  • Tbillygoat68

I tend to play LOUD, but not loud enough; because I can still hear my wife saying “TURN THAT THING DOWN!!!”

  • Glenn

I usually use the volume knob on my guitar to achieve the swells in my playing. I like utilizing swells like Alex Lifeson does in Rush’s song ”Xanadu”. Haven’t found a volume pedal that suits me yet. Hint… hint…

  • Anonymous

I play a lot of dinamics. I use volume pot but when i want to decrease full sound with all my effects the volume pedal is the only way. Organ effect with chords and a volume pedal is nice too. I need this volume pedal!

  • Joemejer

I like to explore different genres. The volume depends on the style of music I am playing and often my mood.

  • Wve

loud and louder w/ my new peddle

  • Wve

oud and louder w/ my new pedal

  • http://www.facebook.com/michaeltbloom Michael Bloom

I play loud enough to rock out, quiet enough to not wake the kids.

  • Dainis

My partner for life (my stratocaster) doesn’t like it when I ride the volume pot to go from clean to mean – all the sparkle vanishes! Using a volume pedal lets me go from crystalline lines to the hammer of Thor without losing my mojo…

  • AARON MILES

I just love to play loud metal! But there comes a time regen you want a smooth incline of sound without the hassle of doing so manually…..this would be perfect for that! Please just let me have it lol «/

  • Jaysanderman

Someday when we travel the vast expanse of our universe my sound waves will still be faster & further out!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/Sdmflucky Steve Roberts

i love to play loud… this would help me turn it down really quick when my wife starts yelling at me!!!!!!

  • Dogboyv

dynamics ,chops, and tone.what its all about

  • BDB

I like a balanced volume that can be pushed when it needs to get out in front and pulled back when I need to blend. So precision is essential. I currently don’t have a volume pedal but man I need one!!

  • Micah

    Loud Quiet Loud

  • Mark Thompson

I play along with recorded music, so when I play to the Doobie Brothers, Beach Boys, The Beatles or Spirit, etc., I play softly and semi-quietly, but when I play to Deep Purple, Grand Funk Railroad, Led Zeppelin or Foghat, etc., it’s loud and proud!!! Playing along with the radio for hours as I frequently do, a pedal like this would be important because you never know what songs are coming up next. By the way, no better way to practice all types and styles of playing.

  • Murderu

Sadly I have to play too quietly because when i play at a volume I think is reasonable my downstairs neighbor, an old Chinese lady, makes noise complaints because the building shakes. She says,”No boom boom boom, too loud.” Sucks because I’ve already got my Hotplate at-16. A volume pedal would help get me out of the signal degradation that having the signal attenuated so much creates and give me that extra control.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1320503517 Jeff Beck

Its all about dynamics, you need to play loud and soft!

  • Jimmy Knowles

I play bass and usually try to control my volume with my finger technique, but when playing lightly my tone suffers a bit. I could definitely use a volume pedal to achieve the same dynamics with no loss of tone. Soooo, give it to me!!! NOW!!!!!!!! m/

  • Fosterdave68

Fret Melting,Window Shattering,Teeth Chattering,Ear Bleeding Volume……..THEN We Crank It Up!!!!!!!!!

  • Lensewall

Volume control is key to a well rounded musician, the texture and color a Dunlop Volume Pedal can add to a musicians music could build a career.

  • Rotcivo

Play loud sometimes in solos but love to sweep the volume!

  • Frank

    11. The only way to go! Volume pots going out, this would help!

  • Whotheobscure

A volume pedal is one of the most important pedals. Dynamics is one of the most important parts in music. I play at all levels, what the music calls for.

  • http://www.facebook.com/hoganjosh Josh Hogan

I try to use dynamics when i play. Its tough though without a volume pedal in my pedalboard. Changing tone with the toggle switch is sometimes enough but not always. Ive used some volume pedals before and i put them at the end of the chain. it allows me to control my tone from the guitar and the volume of it from the pedal itself. I just dont have the money to afford my own right now

  • Gregchilcott

Depends on the mood. Sometimes I kick on the OD and turn my amp up to unreasonable levels. Other times I dial in the best clean tone I can and ad just a little bit of sustain and play myself a love song. A volume pedal IS on my list of things to get!

  • Studiogorilla

Play loud when I know the song, and soft when I’m reading a chart. Boom, I said it!

  • MP

    I play with BEAUTIFUL VOLUMES….haha

  • Lerbdude47

I am in a post rock band and we have so many swell parts we’d like to add and it’d be incredible to have this beautiful solution.

  • Doomedfuzz

I play in an insanely loud southern stoner rock band with vintage amps. I also like the tone of blazing P90s. That volume, old amps, and single coil pickups mean I have a lot of noise. I’ve been wanting a volume pedal for eons to help me with my stage volume but also to help when I play some quieter things and don’t need people to be spanked across the skull with my volume! Adding volume swells to the arsenal is also mucho desired! Bring it on brothers!

  • Mike Padilla

I would love to be able to use a high quality Dunlop pedal for my volume control because my band likes the clean/distorted quiet/loud dynamics and it looks to be VERY durable and something that would get a ton of use.  =D

  • C_arose

Dynamics are the key to music. I go from the quiet, gentle clean sounds to the roaring distortion.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=619799730 Andrew Henry

I have a knob that goes from 1-10 for a reason, I tend to use the full range.

  • HULK!!!

HULK MAD, HULK SMASH WALLS WITH ANGRY NOISE!!!!

David Banner, on the other hand, plays with silence and grace, as he slowly paces backward down the road contemplating the gamma rays that have ruined his life and turned him into an eternal hitchhiker.
THEN MR. McGEE MAKE ANGRY, AND HULK TEAR PANTS WITH ANGER AND VOLUME, BUT NOT SO MUCH THAT HULK’S PANTS FALL OFF.  HULK VERY ANGRY, BUT SLIGHTLY PRUDISH.

  • Drummin4god

I definitely like to utilize loud and soft dynamics. That’s what music is. Sometimes playing gently can be just as powerful as turning the volume up and letting it roar. it’s all about contrast and not over-doing it. I do believe it can be TOO loud. But, it has to be really extreme… because, to quote KISS, “I love it LOUD!”

  • Eviltwin1489

    Pretty low…

  • http://www.facebook.com/jbrodeur John Brodeur

Quiet when the neighbors are home, loud when they ain’t.

  • Hateforgedmetal

I like it loud i use a single channel amp and it takes lot of volume pot use to get cleaned up some so in short i would love this pedal

  • Mrpankow

I control volume sometimes with my picking hand’s dynamics. A volume pedal would be great for my board as I want to pursue a post-rock/post-metal sound in which the dynamics of loud and quiet are a big part of that style of music.

  • Voodooroxie

I play loud. Ted Nugent loud. Maybe the pedal might help quiet me down.

  • Kbs

It has to be musical… from a whisper to all out IN YOUR FACE, there is a time and place for both and everything in between.. then there are the times you have to just LET LOOSE !!!

  • Randyjeffers41

I try to play quietly until it’s time for fill in’s or until the bridge comes along. Having a volume pedal, keeps you on top of this, and help’s to keep in rythm.

  • bryan wilson

I like to play LOUD , but the police like me to play low . I could really use this to prevent me from paying lot’s of fines .

  • SeVeN

I would love to have this in front of my fulltone gt 500. I could keep the drive on and let this badass pedal change my sound. Pedal to the metal as they say and this thing will be able to take the the beating to slam it forward and blast away and still let me roll it back to soften up the grit

  • Jeremy Palmer

When I play loud I shatter people’s eardrums, and when I play quietly people say “Aw man! That’s better!”. For I am a beginner guitarist.

  • Fitzty

I play at all volumes, anywhere from trying not to wake the neighbors, to shaking the house apart

  • Anonymous

I play quietly.  Then I play loud.

  • David C

I like to be able to add or back off of the volume depending on the effects I’m using and or the type of music I’m playing. And of course it’s awesome to be able to shut down the volume at the end of a song.

  • Mike Welch

I use the volume on my strat to clean up or dirty the sound as I wish.  I set the amp growly and use the volume to clean up when I need to.   I clean up pretty good.  Can’t imaging having a pedal… what a luxury.

  • Jdith135

I generally speaking enjoy playing thrash metal and symphonic/classical music(or sometimes a combination) where dynamics of sound come into play quite often especially with volume swells. When playing I will play at a high volume and gain whilst playing distorted sections and lower my volume and add delay or chorus for interludes and ballads. I understand that this sounds like I am bias but I use fullbore metal and the mxr stereo chorus with a carbon copy delay with light regen.

  • don

you know swells valleys dips in the vibe…

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1453038150 Steven Fosson

I run through 3 full stacks, you tell me how loud I play!

  • Stringslinger

The majority of my gigs are in small coffeehouses and churches.  Depending on the venue’s sound equipment and “sound man” (who are often wanna be experts) can be a death-knell for my sound.  This pedal would allow me some control over my own sound in that I could punch through when I need to.  It could really be a God-Send, if you will.

  • Davidhasselhof74

I truely need both loud and quite to play. I play modern metal and in most of my songs I have heavy riffs then a part that’s quite. I need loud because I love loud and heavy sounding distortion. But I also need quite for those softer parts in my songs. I’ve been looking for a volume pedal that’ll give me what I need so I could play my songs in there entirety without have to stop and mess up the feel of the song. I love being diverse with my sound. I feel like song control and volume are key to a all around player. I think with this I wouldn’t be held back on what I could do and progress and be able to make more songs with changing volumes and distortions.

  • ChrisK

Oh Man a brushed aluminum volume pedal with a steel band drive… That’s very cool

  • http://www.facebook.com/david.alexander.mcdonald David Alexander McDonald

I tend to go for the loud, brickwalled, and very nasty kind of tone — cheap, hot, and dirty, punched through crunch boxes and into a busted out amp. Earbleed time!

  • MikeB

louder is better (just don’t ask the landlord).

  • http://www.facebook.com/clolio Cody Lolio

It all started when i was born. My mother was playing Metallica and my Father was using the power of rock to birth me. The sound was loud. Horrifyingly loud. From the time i was birthed to when i was about 16 i had heard many loud noises. I used to these sounds to craft the greatest sound ever. Using my hardened and calloused ear drums i cranked my amplifier up to 11 and jammed out. My neighbors called the cops, but the cops just sat back and watched as i laid out a tasty lick for them. I went to turn down the volume, but wait? There was no volume pedal. From that moment on i continued to play as loud and as furiously as i possibly could. Sometimes at night people around the world can hear my guitar scream. Thats how loud it is.

  • Wiidude22

I love using a volume pedal for swells and sometimes just tweaking the volume, but it definetly makes playing more expressive! If only I had one of these…

  • babyjoe

For my jazz band I enhance from the background but when it comes to my solos I really need a chance to shine.

  • musicnboots2

I play my 1930′s lap steel and do swells from super soft (pp) to loud (FF). I am currently using a old school passive goodrich but I love the way this thing looks the rubber tread adds a great touch of manlyness and functionablity.

  • Dan V

Volume control is SO necessary live.  Not only just going from rhythm to lead, but for swells and fading.  I play in so many different genres here in NYC that a volume pedal is something that really helps to be able to do your part in the band and the style that you need to play.

  • 23

     from ppp to FFF.

  • andyb24

A bit of both–that’s why I need one!

  • andyb24

A bit of both–that’s why I need one!

  • Zendavis

I’ve been needing one of these bad boys for quite some time! I love the dynamics of volume adjustments for emotional impact on notes. I would definitely put this to great use right away!

  • Zendavis

I’ve been needing one of these bad boys for quite some time! I love the dynamics of volume adjustments for emotional impact on notes. I would definitely put this to great use right away!

  • macaddyct

I often do swells, so one of these would come in handy…

  • Max

I play quiter than an owl in flight until suddenly….

it gets loud, okay? Don’t make me think of another simile.

  • Guillermoalcantara41

some like it loud i like it louder louder then hell

  • Crxsi88

Always loud. Unless I don’t know it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/calymos Benjamin Fuqua

I play loudly enough that my heroes will hear me, from Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen, to John Mclaughlin and Allan Holdsworth; I play so loudly that when I bend a string, there’s an earthquake across the Earth.

I play quietly enough that I can still hear.

With both, I’ll be able to knock on the doors of my influences, and if they will listen, I will tell them how awesome this volume pedal that I won is.

  • Chris

People always talk about their tone, the amount of distortion they use, this or that effect.  I like to play loud when I’m playing rock or metal; but when it comes to playing Worship music finding the right volume is key.

  • Brandonmorris324

How loud I play depends on what I’m playing. If I want to compliment the music i tend to play softer. if I want to stick out and solo I crank it all the way up. It’s important to be able to do both.

  • Anonymous

Overdrive the amp, roll back the volume, bring it back to rip their balls off.

  • Oceansizesound

I can get dramatic leads to jump out from the mix and give chills. A must have for any rig!

  • http://twitter.com/Guitarstuff4U Brian

As the Immortal band KISS says “IF ITS TOO LOUD YER TOO OLD!” I always keep that in mind when plugging into my Marshall amp, thats why the volume is kept at 10! would I love to have this pedal as I can’t afford to buy any? hell yess! matter of fact I’m hoping like hell I wont have to sell my stuff to pay a house payment! please pick me!

  • RestatingtheObvious

Very cool looking volume pedal. :-D   That would be great for volume swells.

  • Db

Loud as a chainsaw! This will help with dynamics. Gimme. Gimme!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dusty-ODay/100001195779902 Dusty O’Day

    Dynamic expression is important!

  • gabbola

i plat loud.  always.  people who play softly and quietley only do so to hide their mistakes.

  • cltflckr

OMG i play like so loud all the time lol rawk on!!!!!!

  • Nascarbean_97

I am always quieting my drummer so we can make it back in venues!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1210184585 Favian Orozco

    Like waves breaking your neck.

  • Thuckins

I like to be noisy, but I like to play the noise. Feedback, dissonance, drony overtones, this is all fun stuff.  Controling dynamics makes it a beautiful noise and not just a garbage truck emptying a dumpster.

  • Joekips

My playing very much revolves around using dynamics through my volume to get the tone I want, since my Marshall JMP 2203 is a single channel amp I use my volume to either clean up my tone or go balls out and rock. So all in all I switch between playing loudly and quietly all the time in my playing.

  • Gordonhelp

I like slow clean to dirty blues-rock, I like it LOUD and IN CHARGE! Buuuuuttttt you gotta let the of the band play to. It would be good to have this pedal Y’all!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1567434477 Jack Williamson

The volume I play depends on the music I’m playing…Heavy goes loud, Blues gets a little lower, and playin’ my kids to sleep gets low.

  • Jruddock52

If I had this volume pedal I would be able to play some pedal steel sounding riffs on my gee-tar. I would also be able to play some subtle blues licks or crank out some shreds

I always wanted a volume pedal. I love volume swells, but I hate doing it by hand with the guitars volume knob. It would help me with that, enriching my lead work. Also, it’s nice to have an easy way to switch between my three guitars without having to turn the amp down in the middle of the concert, and without making unbereable noise. Oh, and of course, this is the most BEAUTIFUL volume pedal ever. I love brushed nickel. I never tested it, but Dunlop and MXR is my favourite pedal company, and I trust them blindly by now.

  • http://twitter.com/jwsexson Wendell Sexson

Wow, I would just love to win this. I am lousy at volume swells with the knob on the guitar and I love to swell from barely overdriven to nasty for emphasis. Plus I could use this as an expression pedal on my multieffect box.

i’m sure many people here already do have a volume pedal, but I don’t, so I DESERVE ONE!!!!

  • Bob Pickard

When I am playing onstage, I rely heavily on a volume pedal. As a lead guitarist, there are parts of pretty much every song where I need to have the ability to get louder, but most of the time, I need to not run at that volume and every song seems to have a “proper volume” that it should be played at.  With a volume pedal, I can tweak that at will, without the distraction of trying to do it with my hands, while they have other things to do, such as playing the song.  Since mine has died, I badly need another one and this one looks far better than the old one did.

  • Anonymous

After 38 years of ear maddening madness, its all about the low wattage tubes for me. Nothing like a 18 watt custom baking at saturation and kicking in some volume for those Frank Marino solos…..

  • Nicksw2000

I like to use my guitar’s volume knob to control gain, but would love to have this volume pedal to control delay swells!

  • http://twitter.com/davidjmarsh David Marsh

I would say I play somewhere in the middle but it would be nice to have a volume pedal to make adjustments to the volume without having to mess with the settings on the guitar. Would be much easier to make the adjustments with a pedal compared to the volume knobs especially at times where I am using my acoustic.

  • Kenny Carlile

I like to play loud and soft…and everywhere in between with volume swells! :o )

  • Sharkygomez

  • Delbie_dean

I like Nikki Sixx’s advice concerning the construction of his bass:  “Both of the pickups are wired together, and there are no tone or volume
controls. The only control is a toggle switch that turns the pickups on
    or off.”

Leave the guitar at 11 and use your effects to christen the mood.

My downstairs neighbor is eighty-three years old. I always assumed that at some point she might not hear me even when I played my acoustic guitar but she is a canary in a coal mine when it comes to sound waves. I’m not saying that the volume pedal would be a great way to gaslight her but, well maybe that is what I’m saying.

It’s just so important to be able to easily crank down that volume when somebody’s singing.  This is an excellent way to keep the music going during vocals.  As far as volume goes, I like from nice thumpy palm mute power chords to one or two string screeches using my Tele B-Bender–make that B string feel the pain!

  • petrucci.rocks

I PLAY SO QUIET IT IS EFFING LOUD!!!

Definitely use these for my acoustic shows for volume boost for leads and baking off when needed. Too bad my other volume pedal is on it’s last leg. This volume pedal looks great and tough.

  • Curmudgeon

Dynamic use of volume is another tool in playing with variable texture.  A volume pedal is a terrific compliment to varying/controlling volume, as well as producing “swell” effects when desired without constantly relocating your picking hand.  A great tool!

This would be great for controlling crescendos in music regardless of style. This Dunlop volume pedal is a great tool for adding an emotional dynamics to my music and add greater dimension whether playing soft ballads or hard driving rock. The fluidity of this pedal makes this a breeze too.

    Peace!

  • Mike19855

I like to mix it up from loud to quite  wuite to soft then soft to mind numbing I mix it up always and it is different all the time deending on the music I create. When you mix it up back and forth each and everyway it gives your music a certain personality of its own.

  • Mark

I play everything from Hard Rock, Blues, Jazz and Latin fusion type of stuff. I love incorporating volume swells into my soloing, but I just don’t have that control I need with my guitar’s volume knob, so this pedal would be a welcomed addition to my rig.

  • Soothslayer21

Gonna use this baby to do some B-E-A-utiful volume swells. Which I’ve had ideas for on some solos. Beautiful piece of machinery

  • Joe

It’s fun to play as loud as Lemmy on a jet plane during takeoff, but I like to be able to vary the extent to which I make the listeners’ eardrums bleed. Without dynamics it can end up like that one scene from the movie “Scanners”. A volume pedal is one of my next purchases if I don’t win this one!

  • tron

    like to try this

  • Cody

I play all over, but one of my favorite things to do is to have quiet build ups for dramatic effect, and to also go from a steady volume to ear shattering madness that blows the walls apart.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sergey-Grodzenskiy/100000446129427 Sergey Grodzenskiy

This is how our songs go usually: we start from whisper-volume, so our vocalist can sensually sing something barely audible into his mic (and other guys do alike on their instruments) and then slowly (or not so slowly) go all the way to the top, cranking amps to eleven and blowing the roof off the joint.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000041029382 Anonymous

Depends what I play, when my parents aren’t home (being a 15 year old) I play metal and alternative rock as loud as I can. And when I’m pissed off I play loudly. When they are home, I just play classic rock at a quiet level.

  • Diego García

I’m in a band called Los Cassettes and we’re from Maracaibo, Venezuela. It’s a really shitty country to playblues/rock/alternative but we’re doing our best. There is a song in our set that’s called Pintame azul (Paint me blue) that goes from quietly picking chords to loud and distorted  Iggy and the Stooges blow up and the pedal would be pretty awesome for it.

  • Topp Dogg

Beautiful, range is essential, whisper soft or ear blistering loud is how it is done.

  • Kathy H

We switch from rock to fusion to blues to jazz and dynamic manipulation is important in volume and tone.

  • Anonymous

We can all use a guitar’s volume knob to quickly adjust our sound, but a pedal like this can make your guitar truly sing.

It turns an electric guitar into a ultra-expressive instrument to rival its acoustic cousins (such as violins). Just think of Mark Knopfler’s gentle wailing/ volume swells on ‘Brother’s In Arms’. Even with years of practice, that would be very hard to do smoothly by tweaking the guitar’s volume knob while playing.

Of course, you could use it to boost volume for solos, or to play clean when you’ve been playing with crunch/ distortion. You can also experiment with putting it before or after drive pedals. A pedal like this just adds another effect to your arsenal, and is something you didn’t know you needed until you get one.

  • Daddyo1

THIS is one truly fantastic pedal!

I need to play softly enough so as not to awaken a sleeping baby. Shhh. Shhh..

  • Станислав Смоленцев

I like to play at 80% percent of guitar volume, pushing it to 100% in some places. Its more a question of a sweet tone spot for me, which i could reach without any limitations, as easy as it could ever be. On crunchy clean tone active use of Pedal gives a kind of voice touch, adding a tons of emotionality and dynamic for my guitar play.

    C`mon guys!
    – Frankly speaking, what would we all prefer, to regulate a guitar volume by knob, like in old tiny radio or use a mucul car-like pedal, that could give us a feelings of getting most of an `89 ford mustang? –

  • Станислав Смоленцев

No volume on the guitar!) – rule)

  • Beshmonger

I mainly play cranked up but I do use the volume on my guitar for dynamics and to roll off gain.

  • Brian

Playing with expression – playing with feeling. My violin teacher was always harping about dynamics. “More Feeling”, she would say. Well, she was right. With the right “attitude” on the pedal, volume knob, pic, bow, voice, etc. the message of the song or lyric comes across and makes the audience move with it. So I guess I play  loud and soft- but the music is about so much more than simply volume. A volume pedal is an expression “brush” for the true artist as he/she colors the canvas for waiting ears.

  • Daddyo1

THIS is what a volume pedal should be!

  • Jmfolker44

My son plays, and I would love to win this for him….to play quietly.

  • Federico Ponti

    I PLAY LOUD

  • Metalmikewhite

I play as loud as possible! I’m a metalhead who uses high gain so I need a quick pedal to kill my volume after each song!

  • kingbingo909

A must have pedal. Having the ability to easily drop your volume without losing your guitars’ dynamics, do volume swells, etc., is a nice tool  to have in your bag. Volume control is good, you know!

  • http://twitter.com/skullatafuneral Siorne John

I play so loud, that the neighbors moved out :D

  • Zexionu

I play about as loud as Dunlop rocks hard!

  • Vargasjr Alejandro

Both. Depends all on the music.

  • Dfeked1

I play as loud as the part in the song calls for. Sometimes, I crank everything to make my full stack scream and I have a wall of tone behind me. At other times, I’ll duck the volume to nearly a whisper to clean up and not overpower other soft parts. It’s a lot of right hand work, and that’s not just knob twiddling. Controlling dynamics through technique is integral to keeping an organic feel to a jam.

But certain effects can only be achieved with certain hardware. Having foot control of your volume adds a whole new palette of tonal options to your playing. With this sort of control, there are few limitations to the dynamics that can be created and controlled, and a guitarist can get more expressiveness from their guitar’s voice.

  • Guitaralec

I looove to play aggressive progressive-rock, so the word to describe my volume is: LOUD!

But sometimes, when i’m not the one shining, i turn down my volume knob to give space to my band members. It’s a decent technique, but with THIS volume pedal (which look so nice too!!) you’re able to turn down the volume and leave the gain and sustain at the highest!

Long story short: volume is essential to have a band playing TOGETHER as a band! But i prefer playing loud! (like the rest of my band).

  • Daddyo1

For those of us whose guitar volume control is in an awkward place this is a godsend.

  • Rh0ds626

When I’m alone, I play loud enough to piss everybody off, but quietly enough so that the cops aren’t interested.  At rehearsal, I play around 70% for riffs, 50% for verses, 60% for choruses, and 100% for solos.

  • Bondo

I play loud enough that my wife tells me to “Turn it the hell down”.

  • http://www.facebook.com/bcrosby01 Brian Crosby

I like to play LOUD! So LOUD that Lemmy himself tells me to turn it down. So LOUD that the queen of England
hears my playing in the good ‘ol US of A and says, “Bloody Hell! Turn down that ruckus!” So LOUD if
LOUD were a drink it would eat through your intestines and blow out your ass in a raunchy explosion of
bile and loudness. BUT, when the baby is asleep I play QUIET. So QUIET that the suds in my beer hardly make
the slightest wave. So QUIET, that my dogs stare at me wide eyed as I stand strumming what appears to
be an electric guitar on mute. So QUIET that my wife doesn’t care that it’s 3:00am and I rock my self to
bed with a little rocking lullaby.

  • Bob

It all depends. There’s nothing like a properly loud amp to lose all your thoughts and worries in, just play and forget, but unfortunately these modern things called neighbours restrict how loud I can go. And it’s nice to play some quieter stuff every now and then.

I like to have my amps CRANKED and then use volume adjustments to choose how dirty or clean I want to tone to be. For a real hands free operation, especially in the studio, sitting down, I’d use a volume pedal first and last in the chain. I love the DVP1. Sturdy, kick ass smooth, adjustable + a tuner out!

  • Michifischermail

really depends on the music ! i like some crunchy, but silent blues sound. and  what gets me going is a huuuge zack wylde solo with the volume cranked up to insanity ! so you see, volume depend on the musik. i would say, in most cases i use 70 % of my guitars volume. the knobs are perfect to adjust the gross sound, but when it comes to the really fine details a pedal gets the hell out of that guitar !

A song is an emotion, so the right volume must match the right emotion. A melancholy balled expressing the inner brokenness that you feel is sometimes expressed in a quiet weeping or a Loud ANGRY SCREAM aimed at your maker, waiting for the explanation for your short comings. The Joy inside of I you is expressed at an over barring volume as you express your happiness. That is what I do with my guitar, I express the emotions that we as humans feel through the guitar. volume is one of those ways you do that.

  • Firstchuckmo

My playing style varies widely from old school rock to blues and metal hence my volume level has to be constantly adjusted. Seeing as I play both rythm and lead guitar during most songs the ablity to change my volume level is must. When switching from rythm to lead I need to be able to get more volume on the fly so my leads can stand out and running back and forth to my amp just to get that extra volume I need for my leads just doesn’t cut it as I keep my volume and tone knobs on my guitar all set to ten just incase I accidentally hit one of my knobs by mistske while playing. Once I have the cash to get a volume pedal which will complete my pedalboard I’ll be all set. Thanks for producing your new volume pedal, Dunlop, and for making such great wah and effects pedals! Keep up the great work!!!
    Sincerely,
    Charlie M.

I always play with full volume control on 10 for best tone on my Gibson Les Paul for leads and cut back alittle on rythm, wouldn’t mind trying out this pedal.

  • Icecycle66

I actually like to play volume pedals. I’ll pull the attack out of my notes by doing quick volume swells, or make big long “blorp” sounds with a slow moving swell.

Otherwise, I play pretty low.  Living in an apartment makes volume a touchy subject; control is required.

  • Justin S

I do what the song calls for.  Sometimes that means full tilt and very soft within the same song, or even the same phrase.

I use volume in order to maintain ambiance when the music needs it. To do volume swells when it’s important, and to go full blast with my tube amp when it’s finally time to rock.

The Digitech one I have isn’t going to cut it, it’s not sensitive enough. :(
