I play out a lot and have seen my share of “average” bands, but can always appreciate a guitarist that takes the time and effort to push their sound to the limit with their picking technique, picks, and stings. i use a PRS Mark Tremonti Treble pickup on an Agile Dauntless SBD 2TS with a set of Skinny top heavy bottom’s by Ernie Ball. Add a Boss Mega Distortion pedal on a marshall JCM2000 and that’s heavy!

If I’m not playing through 15″ speakers, I’ll either blow the 12s or not get the tone I’m after.  I know an 18″ sounds ridiculous, but for some thick heavy rock, you’d be surprised at the tone.
