Dunlop TV’s Bryan Kehoe sits down with Evanescence guitarist Troy McLawhorn to talk about joining Evanescence, how he got started playing guitar, and of course, the gear he uses, including the Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Cry Baby, and MXR Zakk Wylde Overdrive and Kerry King Ten Band Equalizer. Troy is particularly pleased with the MXR Zakk Wylde Overdrive, which he used liberally on Evanescence’s new #1 album.

“I don’t feel like you lose any of the low end, and you get a little mid boost but it’s a good frequency that puts you in sweet area,” says Troy, who is also a recent and enthusiastic covert to Dunlop Electric Guitar Nickel strings. “They’re great. The reason I like the Dunlop strings so much is that I love the tightness of the bottom end and the brightness of ‘em. The strings just sound new for longer. We go through all these different climates—hot and cold weather—and they still sound good.”
