Zakk Wylde performed the Sammy Hagar classic “Heavy Metal” with contestant James Durbin on last night’s American Idol. All the attention was on Durbin, who Wylde praised after the performance. He was great, but admittedly we were more interested in Zakk and his monster guitar playing. It was a nice spotlight for his Signature Cry Baby, which he used during the solo (at the 1:30 mark). Zakk’s use of the Wah is well known to everyone who is a fan of anything he’s ever been in, so we’re glad to see him nail it on stage on prime time TV in front of millions of telli-tube watchers. We grabbed some stills above, but you should definitely check out the full video below so you can actually hear it in all its glory. Here’s to one of the greatest Wah players of our time!
Here’s the full list of Dunlop gear that he used on stage last night:
If you want to learn more about our Cry Baby Wahs, check out our new documentary where artists, including Zakk, talk about the revolutionary pedal.
