Q: Why is the Tortex logo a turtle?
A: Going back several decades the most popular material for guitar picks (plectra) was tortoise shell. This material was outlawed in the US and the picks became illegal and very sought after. Celluloid plastic was used in picks to give the appearance of tortoise but the feel is totally different. In 1980 Dunlop Manufacturing developed a new pick material and process that created a pick similar in action and response to the old tortoise shell and with a bit of texture on the surface. Tortoise & Texture = Tortex.
