Frank Bello asked what most of us never think about: Why should every string on a bass be built the same? Throwing down aggressive grooves for Anthrax, he needs definition down low and body up top. So Frank worked with Dunlop to combine two different string designs: Hybrid Wound Nickel Strings for a clear and punchy bottom with Standard Nickel Wounds for a thick, round top. You get a nice edge and a fat low end wherever you land.

    CUSTOM CROSS-SET DESIGN

    Most string sets use one recipe from the lowest string to the highest. Frank wanted something different. By combining Hybrid Nickel low strings—a 105 and an 85—with Standard Nickel high strings—a 65 and a 45—this set gives each string the voice and feel that best suits its role on the instrument.

    Definition Down Low

    Play your lowest notes, and listen for how clearly they ring out. That's the Hybrid Wound Nickel construction at work: a nickel outer layer wrapped around an inner layer of steel. This best-of-both-worlds design allows aggressive runs on your bottom strings to cut through while still laying down the weight and authority you expect from your low end.

    Thickness Up Top

    Now move up the neck and let a few high notes ring. This is where the Standard Nickel high strings do their work—chosen for warmth and body so that your melodies, fills, and chords carry real presence up top.
