John Petrucci

John Petrucci.

John Petrucci is a prog rock legend, renowned for his tonal taste and mastery of his guitar’s fretboard.
A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, John would go on to co-found band Dream Theater, where he serves as the band’s guitarist, producer, main lyricist and also backing vocalist. His side projects include the Liquid Tension Experiment with Tony Levin, and he's a veteran of Joe Satriani's prestigious G3 tours along with Steve Vai, Eric Johnson and Paul Gilbert.

John is a long-time Dunlop artist, and in recent years, he's collaborated with us to design picks and a Cry Baby® Wah for his trademark sound and playing style.

“To me the guitar pick has always been its own instrument. It's vital to the tone, accuracy, and musical standards I strive for when I play. My signature Dunlop picks are the only ones out there that tackle and conquer all three of those elements with ease.”

John told us that he's been using Cry Baby Wahs for as long as he can remember. “I've tried many different wahs over the years, all of them Dunlop Cry Baby Wahs,” he says. “It was the 535Q that really got me fine-tuning and honing my Cry Baby sound. But because of the types of venues we play, I try to put any front end pedals in the rig and then manage them onstage with a controller. That way, the audio signal only travels a short distance. That’s how I got turned on to the Cry Baby Rack Wah. It has so many options, and that allowed me to dial in the same sound I was getting with the 535Q. For my signature wah, we designed it to have the same boost level, the same tonality, the same sweep as I use with my rack wah, right out of the box. It sounds huge and badass like an angry, screaming monster with the ultimate expressive range.”
