We started with a simple question: What should a great bass string actually sound like? After years of refining the answer with working musicians, we landed on a voice with strong fundamentals, punchy mids, and rich harmonics that stay musical in any mix. Eventually we realized the only way to keep chasing that idea was to build our own String Lab.
Here's the thing about a low B: on some basses, a full-thickness string won't sit quite right where it crosses the saddle, and that big low note can come out uneven. A tapered B is thinner right at that contact point, so it settles in flush on setups where a standard B won't. That lets your low string ring out as cleanly and clearly as the other four.
There's a certain clarity you only really get from stainless steel strings—that crisp, articulate detail that puts an edge on every note. We built Dunlop Stainless Steel Bass Strings to deliver that vibrant definition without sacrificing the low end.
When the band gets loud, the bass is usually the first thing to get buried. With the bold midrange bite of Dunlop Stainless Steel Bass Strings, you can carve out a space for your groove to sit in any mix.
A great 5-string shouldn't make the low B feel like it's playing by different rules. This set was designed so the low B responds with the same confidence, balance, and musicality as the rest of the instrument, making the entire bass feel more connected.
You find out pretty quickly whether a bass string is any good when you're playing it every night. Touring musicians told us what held up, what didn't, and what they wished every string would do. We took that feedback back to the String Lab and kept refining until we got there.
The best gear isn't the gear you notice, it's the gear you stop thinking about because it simply works. That's been Dunlop's philosophy for more than 60 years, and it's the same mindset behind every string we build.
Every Dunlop string is manufactured in California using carefully selected American-made materials chosen for their tone, consistency, and feel. From raw materials to final winding, every detail is built to our exact standards.
